Something Snuggly for a Sunday: The 'Gilmore' Sweater

The Midnight Knitting project this week is finally finished, just in time to wear outside on this chilly morning. Here it is, a little cashmere heathered baseball tee - great for lounging in on any day ending in "-day"!

For this size (bust size 36), I used 4 skeins of Mont Blanc in Rosamund, and 3 skeins of Mont Blanc in Tobacco.

In the end it turned out to be only a very little bit this-season's-Balenciaga, about 2.6% (the single arm stripes), and 97.4% Lorelai Gilmore. Props to the costume designer for that show, because apart from the general wit of the writing, I want - no, NEED - to have a closet full of Lorelai's clothes. Simple and very everyday, but with a little twist in either color, shaping, texture, or print. Is anyone here a fan? Remember the Knit or Die! t-shirt?

Kitschy!Me has decided that I really really need one of these.

Midnight Knitting (again!)

Well, here I am. The clock has struck midnight. And I'm still awake. Still knitting. The insomniac knitter. I don't actually know if I'm knitting because I'm a chronic insomniac, or if I'm an insomniac because I can't seem to stop knitting.

Tonight I'm working on this:

A little something inspired by Gilmore Girls (which I have only recently discovered - how could I have missed all the fun?!?) and Balenciaga ... although in the end, it'll probably look more Gilmore Girls than Balenciaga, but it's all soothing stocking stitch and in cashmere to boot, so it's all good. :)

A few weeks ago I was doing a particular cable pattern for the first time - working exclusively between the hours of 11:00pm and 3:00am each night, a couple of times while watching 300.

Stunning as some of the visuals were... still: BIG MISTAKE. Actually, plenty of big mistakes - the more complicated the cable pattern, the bigger the mistake. And the more engrossing the film, the more mistakes one tends to make, it seems.

At least, as long as that one is me. :)

Those battle scenes sure produced some really 'organic'-looking cables, though, if you're into that sort of thing.

Coming Soon to a LYS Near You!!

I had all sorts of words floating around my brain lately, but now that I'm here, the only one that comes to mind is: WHEW!!!

I've been busy juggling about two or three lives, as we all do sometimes. But in all the running around I surprised myself with the presence of mind to take a pic or two.

Here's just a fraction of a lot of cashmere coming soon to several LYSs near you! (Particularly if you feed your fiber fetish online! (Click here))

Fall is definitely in the air. Can you smell it in the breeze? There's a certain crispness to the air, a light, feathery whisper of brisk leaf-rustling wind in the evenings to come and all that entails. Tree lines a-bloom in sienna, salmon, ochre, gold and crimson... piping hot cocoa by a crackling fire... stolen moments of pure unadulterated knitting time at the end of the day (or, if you're like me, the middle of the night or around the time the Tokyo opens for business, whenever you can steal a moment for yourself).

There's something about that first whiff of fall that's inspiring... that calls to mind all sorts of possibilities - and not just in knitting. For as long as I can remember I've felt that... that je ne sais quoi... that something, at least once every autumn. I know I'm not being particularly articulate here, but do you know that feeling I'm talking about? Does that sound completely mental??

Maybe. But what can I say? I'm a Fall Junkie.
